Artists’ help sought for balloon festival

Calling all Yuma artists: Do your muses happen to really like hot air balloons?

Caballeros de Yuma Inc. is once again looking for an artist who can capture the beauty of the Colorado River Crossing Balloon Festival. That lucky artist’s creation will be used to promote the festival by gracing everything from T-shirts to posters and merchandise.

That artist will receive $400 – and lots of exposure.

“We typically order 500 T-shirts and sold out of them last year,” said Mario Jordan with Caballeros de Yuma. “We also sold out of the 50 posters we had made, not to include the posters we professionally framed and gifted the participating balloonists of the festival.”

The Caballeros chose artist Lynn Morgan’s painting last year. Morgan is an artist living in Wellton.

Jordan said he’s always impressed by what artists submit each year.

“Yuma County’s artists are not short on creativity, and the submissions are proof of such,” he said.

The deadline for submission is Sept. 5. The Colorado River Crossing Balloon Festival itself is slated for Nov. 22-24.

Thirteen submissions were received last year.

“…And every art submission was a serious contender,” Jordan said. “We had a difficult time selecting the winning art piece. Several artists submitted more than one for our review. We would love to have a similar experience to last year, having numerous art pieces to consider.”

Artwork should be submitted to the Caballeros office, located at 180 W. 1st St., Suite C. “If someone needs me to pick it up, I’d be happy to do so as well,” Jordan said. “Your artwork will be on posters and shirts for all of us to enjoy for many years to come.”
