Hot Air Jubilee cancels Friday night launch due to weather.

JACKSON, MI – Due to windy weather conditions, Friday’s Hot Air Jubilee balloon launch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. has been canceled, said Lindsey Edwards, event media and advertising chairperson.

The decision to cancel the Friday night launch due to safety concerns was made around 6 p.m., Edwards said. She said officials watched the weather throughout the day, but unfortunately conditions remained too hazardous for balloon flights.

However, Edwards encourages people to still come out to the Jubilee tonight and Saturday.

“We have a pretty good turnout so far,” she said. “And there’s still live music at 7 p.m. (from Mojo Phoenix), carnival rides, carnival food and merchants.”

Additionally, balloon pilots will be lighting up their balloons on the launch pad at 9:30 p.m. as part of the “Candle Glow,” Edwards said. For more attractions, visit the Hot Air Jubilee website.

Weather conditions are supposed to be better Saturday with less chance of strong winds, she said. Saturday launch times are scheduled for 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
