Lindfield school takes off
At the end of last term, Year 2 children at Blackthorns Community Primary School in Lindfield, UK finished their topic on Polar Exploration and are about to begin learning about Australia in a topic named ‘A Land Down Under’.
So on April 23, a hot air balloon was inflated in the school field in order to take the children from Antarctica to Australia. What better way to travel?
This wonderful event was the stimulus for their diary writing about their journey in the hot air balloon and was arranged by Tom Jordan, the Year 2 teacher, in conjunction with Mike Scholes and Deborah Day, who pilot the hot air balloon across the skies of the south of England (chadballooning.co.uk).
The children were amazed by the size of the balloon and the huge physical effort that is needed to inflate it ready for flight.
