New Hot Air Balloon Basket Helps Camp Holiday Trails Take to the Skies
A new, handicapped accessible basket owned by Boar’s Head Ballooning helped take some of the kids at Camp Holiday Trails go on a sky ride on Monday.
The basket has a door on it, which allows people with limited mobility, or are even in a wheel chair to get in and out of the basket.
Rick Behr with Boar’s Head Ballooning says that he bought the basket specifically so he could do events like this.
Camp Holiday Trails is a camp that focuses on helping children with special needs. One thing they do is try to help them feel normal, and as Tina LaRoche, who is with the camp, says, nothing could be more normal than an outdoor activity like ballooning.
“Participating in a hot air balloon ride is not easy for many of them, so now that we have access to a balloon basket that is wheel chair accessible it really opens up a lot of doors, no pun intended, to those kids.” said LaRoche.
Around 30 kids took to the skies, many saying they would go again if they got the chance.
The balloon rides were won at an auction held by Camp Holiday Trails.
