Reno Balloon Race volunteers sought
The Great Reno Balloon Race will hold its annual volunteer kick-off meeting bringing together “Aeronauts,” the official volunteer group of the event, during a reservations only dinner meeting on March 27 at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino.
The event is a platform for GRBR to welcome back past volunteers and recruit new volunteers This year, the balloon races take place Sept. 5-7 at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park.
“As a non-profit, we rely on the support, strength and enthusiasm of our Aeronauts to execute a successful and safe event,” said Pete Copeland, executive director of GRBR. “This year, like every year, we want our Aeronauts focused and well-educated on the event’s rules and responsibilities. The kick-off meeting is a time for us to provide current and potential volunteers with the ins-and-outs of the event and what volunteering entails.”
Organizers said Aeronauts are an integral part of the event, assisting pilots in preparing the balloons for flight, serving as chase crews, assisting in field setup, breakdown and with security needs. Being an official Aeronaut provides volunteers with a variety of training courses.
The volunteer kick-off event is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Silver Baron A room at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino. A light dinner will be served during the event. Those interested in being a part of the Aeronauts are required to reserve their spot by March 21, as space is limited.
