Sky’s the limit for 10th anniversary of world titles

Hot air balloons of all shapes, sizes and colours will once again fill the wide-open sky over Sunraysia in New South Wales, Australia.

Coinciding with the tenth anniversary of Mildura hosting the 2004 World Hot Air Balloon Championships, competitors are expected to float back to the region for the Back to Mildura event planned for July 5 to 10.

In the 2004 championships, more than 140 balloons from 46 countries took to the sky over Sunraysia in the biggest hot air balloon display Mildura residents had seen.

Expressions of interest from balloonists are being sought for the return event.

Organiser Kerry Frankel said he was pleased with the initial response.

“We’ve received 15 expressions of interest, including Matthew Scaife who is one of Australia’s leading champions,” Mr Frankel said.

“Entrants are coming from across the country, including Western Australia, Queensland, NSW and Tasmania.
