Smyrna Beach Balloon & Sky Fest – bigger & better
The sixth annual New Smyrna Beach Balloon & Sky Fest is set for March 28-30 at the city’s Municipal Airport. Here’s a list of some of the events that will fill the two nights and two days with plenty of family fun.
Day and night airshows – Once again, there will be exhilarating air shows Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 and Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 1. There will be aerobatics, parachutes, a thrilling wing walker, the return of the 300 MPH Jet School Bus and performances by everyone’s favorite helicopter – OTTO.
Hot-air Balloons – A small gathering of balloons is what got this whole thing started in 2009. Now, five years later, there will be dozens of balloons, with dazzling balloon glows Friday and Saturday evenings and balloon flights at dawn Saturday and Sunday.
Veterans – Veterans are special guests. They are admitted free of charge, and are welcomed and honored by volunteers.
Balloon Experience – All weekend long, be sure to make your way to the fantastic Balloon Experience venue, located adjacent to Balloon Island. This is where young and old alike will learn everything they ever wanted to know about ballooning – and a little bit more. Watch, touch, feel, hear – and talk to a licensed balloonist.
Sounds of Sky Fest – Country, Bluegrass, Rock ‘n’ Roll – you name it.
Display Aircraft – You’ll get to see a restored DC-3 that flies on international mission trips and many more warbirds and modern training aircraft.
Carnival – Young, old, middle-aged, teenager. It doesn’t matter what age you are, the carnival has something for you. It’s great during the day, and even better at night. Step up, climb on, sit down and enjoy the ride.
Admission is $10 for adults. Children younger than 12 get in free and so do all veterans with ID. Parking also is free.
