Europe’s Biggest Gas Balloon Gathering
Gas balloonists from all over the world will be gathering at the German Aero Club Northrhine Westphalia this weekend as it hosts it’s annual gas balloon event.
At the time of writing over 25 gas balloons have already registered to attend. There have not been this number of gas balloons at one event since the sport’s heyday in Victorian times.
The first launch for the event is planned for Friday night, 18th of April 2014 on the Gasballoon Launchfield in Gladbeck – Wittringen. The plan is for all teams to fly until the next evening and the maximum duration is expected to be around 15- 20 hours.
With a maximum volume of 1000m3 / balloon. The entry fee this year is 100.00 EURO and the event benefits from sponsorship by the German Aero Club NRW. The entry fee includes: Hydrogen, launch field costs, sand, catering and around the clock, weather briefing.
We hope that the weather gods will deliver a fantastic week of flying for all the competitors. However, organisers have said they will make a decision 24 hours before the planned opening the field to avoid teams making an unnecessary trip to Gladbeck. If the weather is not kind the event will be postponed to another date later in the summer.
