Inflatable wonders in Putrajaya

Visitors to Malaysia’s 6th Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (March 27-30) should check out the world’s largest superbike hot air balloon.

From the UK, this hot air balloon in the shape of a gigantic superbike complete with a rider clad in a racing outfit and helmet will be making its debut in Asia.

Star Wars fans can look forward to the return of the Darth Vader balloon from Belgium.

Other not-to-be missed inflatable wonders include a heart-shaped balloon, giant ice cream balloon and many more.

These hot air balloons will be flying at the event hosted by Aka Balloon Sdn Bhd in collaboration with Perbadanan Putrajaya and Malaysian Sports Aviation Federation.

Event chairman Muhammad Sobri Saad said that the fiesta has garnered a strong following from balloonist all over the world, including France, United States, Germany, Japan, Belgium, Switzerland, Vietnam, the Netherlands, Thailand and India.

“The fiesta draws tens of thousands of visitors from the nation as well as neighbouring countries. With the Formula 1 event going on at the same weekend, we are looking forward to seeing more visitors this year,” he said.

One of the most anticipated attractions is Night Glow. On the third night, all the balloons will “glow” in the radiance of the fire heating up the balloons to the groove of popular music.

New features include a picnic area sponsored by Doof Industries, a popular bean-bag company. Visitors may also want to pre-book the Balloon & Breakfast set to enjoy their own picnic space with an enchanting view of the colourful hot air balloons flying over them.

Adding more fun to the event, Samsung Malaysia Electronics is hosting a photography contest, with prizes of Samsung digital cameras up for grabs.

On top of that, there’s also a 35 per cent discount on KLIA Transit return tickets to encourage visitors to take the transit train to and from Putrajaya. There’s also a RM15 cash back promotion for anyone booking a taxi to the event via MyTeksi mobile apps.
